Darn Vocabulary

I've been reading blogs a fair amount tonight, and it makes me realize how much my vocabulary has suffered since the onset of CFS. I used to have a word for every situation, but more and more I find myself referring to dictionary.com for a quick definition. I think you can see my lack of word-options in my writing here on the site these days as well. I have to admit, it bothers me every now and again.

Funny that you say that! www.dictionary.com has become a crutch for me too! (I blame it on nutra sweet!) : )

Yeah, nutra sweet... that's the problem. I don't really eat anything with nutra sweet, but I am still comfortable blaming it. Nice going Nic.

I actually blame blogs and instant messaging for my loss of vocabulary. Reading simple, dumbed-down, and often misspelled text on a regular basis can't be good for the vocab.

I guess it depends on the blog. I've been to a few that are really top flight in terms of writing quality. Now, aim, that isn't helping for sure. I'm one of those freaks who capitalizes and spells everything just so, but I'm in the vast minority on that I'm sure.

I used to be religious about my spelling/punctuation on AIM and web forums, and I always used to let others know when they'd made an error. That led to my being labelled as a "grammar nazi," as if caring about how I expressed myself was a negative personality trait. I've never understood it; on the internet, where the only superficial thing on which you can base an opinion of someone is the way in which they write, spelling and grammar are of the utmost importance.

Over time, I'm afraid, my grammar/spelling have suffered just a bit from my being surrounded by people who just don't care how they express themselves.
